This one was wild.
We got a call from a couple in Bedford — nice folks, said their downspout wasn’t draining right. They hadn’t looked at their gutters in over 10 years. Honestly, they didn’t even know people cleaned them.
When I got up there, I couldn’t believe it — a small tree was actually growing out of the corner of their gutter. Like, with roots and everything. The soil buildup was that deep. It had turned into a little rooftop garden.
The worst part? The water had been spilling over for so long that the fascia board behind the gutter was completely rotten. You could push a screwdriver straight through it.
I showed them photos, and they were shocked. They kept saying, “We had no idea this could happen.”
That’s what I’ve learned doing this work — most homeowners just don’t know. It’s not laziness, they just never think about it until something breaks.
After we cleaned everything out, they asked us to come back every spring. Smart move.
So yeah — if you’re reading this, maybe go outside and look up.
If you see green stuff growing where it shouldn’t be… call us before it becomes a forest.
